Chantal Assaad Fashion…. Femininely Edgy!

Well, I consider myself lucky whenever I spot creative talents whether online or in real life. This is actually how I felt when I found out about Chantal Assaad by total coincidence while surfing online. Her prêt-à-porter and bags collections are adorned with very chic, yet intricate embellishments that can make any woman stand out of the crowd.

Chantal Assaad

Chantal is a Lebanese young Fashion Designer who followed her heart and studied Fashion Design at Esmond Beyrouth. Her first collection was launched in 2009. Since that time, Chantal has expanded her line which can be found now in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Sweden.

I was lucky enough to have this interview with Chantal;

What made you decide that you want to be a fashion designer?

Well, it is something I have been passionate about for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, I loved to cut up and restyle my clothes, so it’s always been a passion. We had drawing and sewing classes in school and I was always the last student to leave the class.

In Lebanon, there are loads of creative designers, how do you manage to keep up with the competition?

We do have a lot of great Lebanese designers and that makes me so proud.  I think the most important thing is to have your own style so that you stand out.

What are the best/worst things about being a fashion designer?

There aren’t many bad things, really, but I think a hard part is going through a period of time when you are feeling a slump in inspiration and it could be weeks before you get that creative spark. The best thing is when you finish an entire collection and you realize what you have accomplished; that’s the best feeling in the world.

In your opinion, what does it take to become a celebrated fashion designer?

Hard work and perseverance! It is a very challenging world and you have to work really hard to make it.

What inspires you?

I travel a lot and the cultures, architecture, and people I encounter in my

travels really inspire my designs. I can spend hours wondering around in a new city, just observing, and getting inspiration from the small details I see in my surroundings.

Your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to have Fashion shows all over the world and of course my own boutique.

Who’s the celebrity you want to see wearing a gown from your collections?

I am a fan of Jessica Alba and I would love to see her wearing one of my gowns.

Do you think that there is a possibility that you might market your designs soon in Egypt?

I don’t see why not.  I have actually sold to Egyptian customers who came across my collection online, so I know there is some interest and I would love to have my designs in stores in Egypt.

Tell me about about your latest Spring/Summer 2012 collection?

This Spring Summer 2012 was inspired from geometrical shapes with a touch of vintage. I wanted the collection to be abit edgy, so I used stronger colors and cuts in this season.
