The Oscars 2014: The Fashion Verdict

By  |  0 Comments

Three days ago, millions across the globe have been glued to their monitors and TV screens to watch closely every single look, whisper and speech during the Oscars 2014 ceremony which is considered by many as the most-awaited event of the year.

Usually, all the best gowns are kept for the Oscars. Stylists compete with one another to reserve designers’ best works to their A-list clients just for this night. Good for us, huh? Well, this year, stylists made a great job with elegant gowns, glorious makeup and flattering jewelry. As usual, our meticulous examination of every single look has started right after the event. To cut it short, here is our fashion verdict;

Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab

A very boring choice for a very pretty lady! A dull color with unflattering embroidery that made her appear as a mother-figure rather than a hot diva! The nude makeup didn’t help much as well. After years of confining herself in leather, black and white, we were eager to see her in any splash of color that would make her shine. But, that one was a disappointment!

Amy Adams in Gucci

The Oscar nominee looked like a Hollywood royalty in this sleek sapphire gown by Gucci. With a posed hairdo and natural-like makeup, Adams wowed us. If there is any downside to that look, it would be related to jewelry. She would have looked way better with chunkier pieces of jewelry that would have popped her look.

Anna Kendrick in J Mendel

Well, there is too much going on here! With a slit down here, a chiffon bust and an embroidered revealing cut in the middle, we are pretty distracted. If any of those three components had been elicited, Kendrick would have looked way better!

Anne Hathaway in Gucci

Halter-necks can be very tricky especially if you have a somewhat big bust and a long neck. Well, that was the case with Anne Hathaway. We have seen her in many enchanting looks before, but that was definitely not one of them.

Ashley Wagner in Mark Bouwer

If it hadn’t been for the stylish hairdo and red lipstick, we would have trashed this look. With a very simple sequined dress, Wagner still pulled off the whole look with her choice of hair and makeup.

Bette Midler in Reem Acra

Midler looked her absolute best with that Mermaid-cut fully embroidered gown that made her look younger. The jewelry, hairdo and most importantly her smile added to her charm.

Calista Flockhart in Andrew Gn

It seems like hooking up with an older guy really makes you feel and look old. Flockhart looked way too matronly in that beautiful gown. Her hair, pose and pale makeup added years to that beautiful woman’s age.

Camila Alves in Gabriela Cadena

Now, we have a Fashion royalty! Alves looked absolutely dashing in this powder pink dramatic gown by Gabriela Cadena. She kept it simple with the right choice of accessories and makeup.

Cate Blanchett in Armani

A very tricky gown, but fortunately the Oscar winner pulled it off. Such a nude shade went perfectly with her porcelain complexion and glamorous hair.

Charlize Theron in Dior

Sexy? Check. Chic? Double Check. Beautiful Hair & Makeup? Check. Seriously, Theron looked flawless that night. She never ceases to impress her fans worldwide.

Christine Teigen in Monique Lhuillier

Teigen looked seriously dashing in that floral gown. A natural hairdo and sexy heels that made that very laid-back look pop.

Elsa Pataky in Elie Saab

Hmm! Despite that awkward pose, Pataky looked like a hot mama!

Emma Watson in Vera Wang

Well, Watson could have certainly made a more interesting choice other than that gloomy dull gown.

Glen Close in Zac Posen

Close and Posen have been a very sought-after fashion duo. But, here, Close’s look was kind of bleak with that fully covered-up gown.

Goldie Hawn in Versace

Hawn’s look is the ultimate proof that no matter how old you are, you can still bring a fresh spirit to your surrounding with a shimmery color, nice tan and a loving smile.

Ireland Baldwin in Burberry

A very poor choice for the biggest night in the movies industry! That “dress” would have been perfect for a night at the club or even a movie premiere but not the Oscars!

Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta

A retro-hairdo would have been a better option with that Old Hollywood glamour-inspired gown.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior

A fresh, youthful and elegant look indeed! Enough said!

Julia Roberts in Givenchy

That Givenchy gown added years to Roberts’ age with a very unflattering silhouette. The lack of statement jewelry and strong makeup just made the whole look even worse.

Julie Delpy in Jenny Packham

The “Before Midnight” star appeared as an icon in that vintage-inspired gown.

Kristin Bell in Roberto Cavalli

The “Frozen” star stepped up that night with an elegant choice.  That Roberto Cavalli masterpiece marks a new milestone in Bell’s personal style.

Lady Gaga in Atelier Versace

If it hadn’t been for the Marsian hairdo and awkward look upon her face, Lady Gaga would have looked more humane. Obviously, she has been trying to make a poised fashion statement instead of her usual bold stunts. Well, we can give her credit for that!

Lupita Nyongo in Prada

Nyongo’s body was more of a canvas that got beautifully accented by that flowing gown by Prada.

Sandra Bullock in Alexander Mcqueen

The “Gravity” star did not get the sleek statue that night, but she definitely topped the best-dressed lists with a very enchanting gown, regal hairdo and dramatic makeup. One of her best looks for real!
